“Mar, termina los deberes”, le dice su padre urgentemente. “Mara, aparta la bicicleta, siempre está estorbando”. “Mara –le llama su abuela-, ve y mira en el desván si hay algún ratón”. Cada vez que le gritan “Mara! Mara! Mara!” a la niña le falta el aire. En esas ocasiones, va corriendo al baño y cierra la puerta de un golpe. Se desnuda, se mete en la bañera y se sumerge en el agua hasta donde no puede ver el mundo.
“Mara, finish your homework!”, says her mother abruptly. “Mara, move your bike, it’s always in the way”. “Mara –her grandma calls here-, go and see if there are any mice in the attic”. Every time they shout “Mara! Mara! Mara!” the little girl gasps for breath. When it happens, she runs to the bathroom and slams the door. She undresses, gets in the bathtub and puts her head under the water so she can’t see the world around her.
