Selim, como muchos otros jóvenes magrebíes, desea abandonar Marruecos, que se antoja mortecino, para ir al rutilante París. Allí se encuentra su Meca. En su viaje, probará la miel y la hiel: la miel, de la mano de Esther, una chica de Vitoria; la hiel, al conocer la cruda realidad occidental. Tres voces nos narran la historia de Selim, una historia de dolorosa presencia en nuestra vida diaria: la del propio joven magrebí, la de Esther y, en tercer lugar, la del guía que ayudaba a cruzar clandestinamente la frontera.

Selim, like many other young Maghrebis, wants to swap Morocco – a place she considers weak – for the bright lights of Paris. There, she meets Meca. Along her journey, she tastes both honey and bitterness: honey from Esther, a girl from Vitoria; bitterness from experiencing the cruel reality of the West. Selim’s story is painfully present in our daily lives. It is told by three people: the young Maghrebi herself, Esther, and the guide who helps her to secretly cross the border.
