Alaine Agirre brings out various issues linked to maternity that are usually silenced and hidden away, in a novel written with intensity and emotion: assisted reproduction, its physical and psychological effects, the tensions that arise when one member of a couple wants a child more than the other and miscarriages and the mourning period that follows. The author uses her characteristic drive and passion to tell us about the everyday life of the protagonist Sara Mendizabal with a lyrical musicality, drawing beauty out of pain and constructing a whole universe from within the body.

Elkar publishing house was founded in 1975, with the aim of promoting Basque culture. Since then it has been very active as both a publisher and a record label, promoting the literary and musical works of writers and musi- cians and, at the same time, helping to fill gaps in and fulfil the needs of our culture. Thanks to the work carried out in these years, Elkar’s catalogue cur- rently holds more than 2,500 works.
