London Calling

Synopsis

Mikel and Josu, Josu and Mikel, close friends, lifelong friends. About to finish high school, it occurs to them to start a band. We find ourselves in an industrial neighbourhood of southern Bilbao in the mid-80s, just when the wave of radical rock was beginning. They hear and admire groups like Hertzainak, La Polla and Kortatu, and decide to form their own band: Hilotzak.
Music plays an important part in this first novel by Goio Ramos, winner of the Zubikarai scholarship: the process of forming a band, of finding members, of making songs, of finding gigs, or recording a demo… But as well as rock and roll, the novel also has room for the events of the time, a society in ferment, drugs, politics, social conflicts… And also the spark of first love, a flame that will burn longer than anyone expects.
